Winners of the Trencherman’s Awards 2022 revealed at a glamorous ceremony at The Alverton in Truro on March 7.

The Trencherman’s Awards are the most highly coveted dining accolades in the region, so it was appropriate that the winners of the 2022 Awards were revealed in the grandeur of The Alverton’s Great Hall on March 7. The event was attended by the South West’s leading chefs, restaurateurs and hoteliers, among other influential foodies.

Chris Cleghorn of The Olive Tree in Bath, Mark Dodson of The Masons Arms in Devon and Porthminster Beach Cafe in Cornwall were among the winners (find the full list below).

Top chefs Guy Owen of St Enodoc Hotel in Cornwall, Jamie Rogers of Restaurant Twenty Seven in Devon, Nick Hodges of The Alverton and Jonas Lodge of Restaurant GL50 in Cheltenham created the ceremony’s incredible four-course feast. Trencherman’s chairman Michael Caines MBE led attendees in a rousing toast to the chefs who cooked on the night.

The creative cooking was paired with fine wines from Hallgarten and Novum, Cornish beers from Sharp’s Brewery and soft drinks from Frobishers.

Trencherman’s Guide editor Jo Rees hosted the ceremony, and Ben Young of The Alverton gave a moving speech about the difficult times the industry has been through in recent times.

Jo Rees said: ‘Each year the awards receive an astonishing level of engagement as tens of thousands of votes are cast by readers of the guide. The competition is tough because Trencherman’s member restaurants represent the best in the business. To be a finalist is a huge accolade; to be a winner a career-defining moment.

The “real-life” event marked a moment of getting back to normality and it was incredible to have the movers and shakers of the South West’s hospitality sector in a room together once more, celebrating and supporting each other.’
